He did love his brother. He truly did. It's just...he was so serious. He never had any fun. It was always "I'm the first in line for the crown. People need someone to look up to bla bla bla." Murdoch got it but he didn't really see why everything had to be so formal all the time. He lived for those moments when he went off by himself or with Delmara and just hunted. Of course he always had to sneak his sister out. He didn't mind though. He loved Delmara to death. She was the one that helped him the most. He often went to her when he needed advice about girls. And she came to him when she needed to vent. They were both free spirits but he had to admit he was probably a little more grounded that she was. He always had that little voice in the back of his head that knew he was the one that would take over if gods forbid Wyatt couldn't. He sighed and swam to the armory. He picked out his trident and slung it on his back. He noticed his bow was gone from its place too. He smiled a little and knew that Mara was out hunting.
He waved to Wyatt when he saw him on the practice field. Wyatt nodded back to him as he swam past. Undine was sitting surrounded next to a group of girls. "Hey Undine." He called and she rolled her eyes at him but then laughed and smiled at him. The girls around her looked back at him and giggled with each other. He blushed slightly and kept swimming, a tad bit faster. He was 22 and still wasn't that good with women. Sure they all seemed to loved him but he didn't really know what to do with them. They were all beautiful, especially the ones that hung around his oldest sister but they were quite vain. They only cared about his good looks and his strength. He supposed that's what all mermen should care about. But he wanted someone to love him for his jokes, his kindness. He did admit his race could be ruthless, even himself. He was super protective of his people and got scary when he went into warrior mode. He was not proud of what he had done, but it was in the past. He did remember proud moments in his life though. When he killed his first full grown ceberus. When he killed three shrakes at a time.
When he kissed Juniper.
Juniper. Oh he remembered her. She was beautiful and funny and smart. And now dead. He bit his lip as he swam toward the surface. He had been too late to save her. She had met face to face with a hydra just moments after she left him breathless with that kiss. He could feel himself shaking with anger as he stupid mind brought up that painful memory. He swam harder and harder, as if trying to forget the image of the horror on her face as she turned around and looked at him. The way he scrambled up from the rock and charged the hydra. The way the horrible beast reached down and swallowed her in one bite. The way there was nothing left of that monster when he was done with it. No one had known what had happened. What truly happened anyway. The fact that she had kissed him before she died and the way he would be forever scarred even 5 years later. Perhaps that was why he had never really taken an interest with girls that often. He often did a double take if he saw a girl that looked like Juniper. He knew that she would want him to move on but it was hard. He could probably get any girl he wanted in the whole kingdom. He was an excellent warrior, perhaps even better than Wyatt. He was good looking. He was funny, intelligent. But did he want just any girl? No. Not really.
He finally made it to the forested land. He really hoped with the new tournament coming up his people would get better land like this won. It was no wonder that the mer took to the ocean most of the time. He crawled on land, scooting out of the water and closed his eyes as the transformation took place. The gills on the side of his face closed, his legs became two feet, he felt the spine form on the back of his arms and down his back. He breathed in through his nose and smelled the salty air. He didn't mind being in the human form, but most of the time he prefered the water. He got unsteadily to his feet. He walked slowly to the edge of the treeline. It always took him a little bit to get used to the legs. He made sure that he didn't get hit with a drop of water, otherwise he would collapse to the ground once again and that wasn't fun at all. He felt himself become steadier. He crouched down and reached back around and took out his trident.
This was where he was the most comforatble. Hunting alone. Alone with his thoughts. He listened for the crunch of undergrowth or the rustle of leaves. He spun around as he heard the crack of a twig. He threw the trident without a second thought and heard the thump as it landed squarely in the beast's body. It went down and he ran with as much speed as he could muster. He grinned slightly when he saw the large pig wheezing with it's last breaths. He took out the trident from it's body and stabbed it once more with precision. It was not silent. He didn't have any way of bringing the pig back to the undersea palace so he left it there for the scavengers of the forest and continued on. He walked slowly through the forest.
