HISTORY :: Somewhere beyond the sea that surrounds Cydria, the surname Grace was once upheld with respect. Now it's a distant memory, a name dragged in mud too many times. However, Thalia Grace has kept her name even after the few of years of her new life and exile. She is comfortable with making his presence as a vampyr known to people, because Thalia is a special case. She is a kindhearted and happy vampyr, with a love for humans and not blood. She enjoys life, not taking it away. There was a time of course, when she hated her kind, loathed them for what they did to her. But Thalia felt that she was given another chance, a new life.
Since she was a girl Thalia has always been honest and trustworthy, determined and strong. She was a perfectionist and given that with her determination, there was never a time where Thalia allowed herself to be incapable of anything. She was the daughter of Lord Dias Grace, a retired champion, and Juno Hera, a renowned philosopher. Dias was a father who always wanted the best for his daughter; Juno, however, was a studious mother, and always wanted Thalia around books, always learning.
One week Thalia would be with her father, training, learning how to fight and defend herself. Dias taught his daughter that truth and loyalty mattered in this world, and how to use her skills for creating better solutions, than problems. The next week Thalia would be studying alongside her mother, learning manners and history and all other things a girl of proper upbringing should learn. Thalia's childhood paved the way to a strong and intellectual girl, who never forgot to be both generous and thankful.
The vampyr who bit Thalia when she was twenty had used her kindness against her. Pretending to be a lost traveler on the side of the road, he found Thalia leaving the market and asked for directions. Of course, with his breathtaking smile and Thalia's kind heart, she could not refuse and offered to hake him to her home for better maps and a meal. His attack had been swift and disastrous, for not long after he bit her and left her on the kitchen floor, he set fire to Thalia's home.
Thalia woke up in the damp darkness of a jail cell in her town-- as a vampyr and with news of her home burned down to ashes, her family slaughtered. Her people were not fond of vampyrs and blamed Dias and Juno's death on her. Though they still remembered Thalia and her kindness, they did not burn her. The girl stayed silent and never defended herself. They exiled her. To this day Thalia does not know his attacker's name or whereabouts. For all she knows, he may be dead – but Thalia wishes him alive and hopes to meet him again, just to ask, "Why?"
The first three years as a vampyr were lonesome and painful. Thalia traveled as much as he could after being exiled, but she could not stay around too many people for too long. Thalia forced herself to be human and tried to fight her desires. , feeding only when absolutely necessary to abide the pain and fatigue when she didn't. She would only prey on those with blood to spare. She refused to drain someone completely and take away their life. Time flew by, and before long Thalia came to accept the routine, what she was, and who she was.
The next three years, Thalia managed to live a quiet life in some solitary town, playing music at taverns in exchange for a room and a hot meal. She take care of livestock and watch children for the townsfolk who had warmed up to her instantly. They had no clue who Thalia was and the girl preferred it that way. At night, Thalia stayed in the shadows, biting the guards who patrolled the town, leaving them to wake up in a daze.
It was when she was playing her lute at a pub that Thalia overheard men talking about a recent fight for territory on a distant island-- and the vampyrs had achieved a win. She asked the for location of the strand island, and was rewarded with a tattered map. "Shouldn't be going there miss," One old man had warned. "The Gods are just as corrupt as their creations."
At the dawn of the new year, Thalia managed to swipe a boat from the town dock and set a course for Cydria. Thalia saw this as her chance, a chance to settle and finally be around her kind. She wasn't actually sure if she was ready for that, but the she decided to just go with the wind. What was the worst that could happen?
