In addition to all ordinary creatures, these are the fantastical beasts that dwell upon the island.
basilisks
Inhabiting dark, earthy places, such as mountain caves, basilisks are gigantic serpents which can grow up to fifty feet in length. Males are marked by scarlet plumes upon their heads. All basilisks have yellow eyes, and anyone who looks directly into these will be killed instantly. Their fangs carry venom that causes anyone injected with it to die a prolonged, painful death. The only known cure for venom is phoenix tears. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
cerberi
The plural form of cerberus, cerberi are huge, tri-headed dogs that populate the Ni'ithian tundra. Known for their thick black fur, cerberi are often poached. Cubs are born the size of fully-grown female black bears, and continue to grow. Their teeth are sharp enough to tear through flesh, as they are carnivorous. Cerberi are lulled to sleep by music. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
chimeras
Rare creatures, possessing the bodies of goats, the heads of lions, and the tails of dragons, Chimeras are violent and bloodthirsty. Scales from their dragon tails are considered valuable, but no one who's gotten close enough to steal a scale has lived to sell their findings. Because of their dangerous nature, Chimera eggs have been banned from trading, and anyone who finds one is encouraged to break it or burn it on sight. Chimeras populate thicker forests and the tundra. No weaknesses are yet known. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
griffins
Griffins have the head and wings of eagles, and the bodies of lions. They tend to populate the Wynthian mountain rage, for its close proximity to the sky. Griffins are fierce and carnivorous, but, if captured, can be trained to guard treasures. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
hippocampi
The plural form of hippocampus, hippocampi possess horses' heads and forequarters, along with fish tails and hindquarters. They prefer the warmer water temperatures of the eastern sea, but could, in theory, inhabit any shallow body of water. Their eggs are semi-transparent. Hippocampi are playful and exceptionally friendly toward the races. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
hydras
Populating deeper waters, hydras are nine-headed serpents. When one head is cut off, it grows back as two. There are two methods guaranteed to kill a hydra: one, set fire to the creature, or two, spear it through the heart. One might also try crushing it under a landslide, but this method is not one-hundred-percent effective, as hydras could easily shake off the rocks. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
kelpies
Kelpies are water demons that can survive at any depth, but prefer more populated areas for the quantity of potential prey. They can inhabit any form, but most prefer to take the shapes of horses with bulrushes for manes. Kelpies lure in their prey by allowing the victims to sit on their backs. They then dive into the water and devour their riders. Entrails are left to float to the surface. If one can successful bridle a Kelpie, the beast becomes tame and docile. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
manticores
Very rare and very viscious, manticores combine the head of man with the mane and body of a lion and the tail of a scorpion. Stings from a manticore's tail are instantly fatal. The beasts will attempt to kill any of the races that come near them, and will croon softly while devouring their prey. They are capable of intelligent conversation, and their hides repel magic. They tend to hide out in Terrinthian forests. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
pegasi
The plural form of pegasus, pegasi are winged horses that graze and breed in the fields atop Har ha-Elohim. They are gentle and friendly toward the races, and often venture down from the heavens to play with the children. Pegasus are sometimes gifted to champions, either for undertaking difficult tasks during the competition for territories, or for exceptional performance in said competitions. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
phoenixes
Dwelling in the highest and most unreachable peaks of the Wynthian mountains, phoenixes are bright scarlet birds about the size of swans. Their beaks, talons, and tails are golden. Their songs are simultaneously canorous and eerie. When they've grown old, their feathers begin to fall out and their songs turn to more of a gagging song. Then, they burst into flames and are regenerated from the ashes as small, featherless chicks. Fully grown phoenixes can carry loads up to ten times their weight and can disappear in flames, only to reappear in an entirely different spot. Also, their tears have healing powers. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
plimpies
Spherical fish that dwell in shallower waters, such as brooks, creeks, ponds, or lakes. They have two long, rubbery legs, each possessing three toes connected by fleshy webbing. Plimpies tend to nibble at the feet or garments of swimmers. They are irritating, but otherwise, harmless. Tying their legs together robs them of their mobility, and they are forced to drift until they are able to untie themselves. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
sea serpents
Preferring the dark, deep waters of the Southern Sea, sea serpents combine horses' heads with the bodies of serpents. They can reach hundreds of feet in length. Despite their foreboding appearance, sea serpents are generally peaceful creatures, and have never been known to kill a member of any race. Yet, they are still hunted for sport. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
shrakes
Infesting the waters of the Western Shore, shrakes are fish coated in razor sharp spikes that can tear through anything, flesh, metal, and netting being a few examples.
